M42 : Complete performance helped Kolkata to keep distance from chasing teams
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won on Saturday in the 42nd match of the 13th season of IPL. They beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by 59 runs in Abu Dhabi. Ahead of the target of 195 runs, Delhi's team was able to score 135/9 runs in the prescribed 20 overs. The hero of Kolkata's victory was Varun Chakravarthy, who took 5 wickets for 20 runs in 4 overs with his spin. Pat Cummins also took three wickets (giving 17 runs).
With this, Kolkata won the sixth victory. With 12 points from 11 matches, they remains in fourth place. This was the fourth defeat for Delhi Capitals. They remains in second place with 14 points from 11 matches.
Cummins gave Delhi two initial shocks
Chasing a score of 195, Delhi lost the wicket on the very first ball of the innings, when Ajinkya Rahane (0) was lbw by Pat Cummins. Shikhar Dhawan (6), who came to start the innings with Rahane, couldn't kept going, he was bowled by Cummins.
Varun Chakravarthy's spin
After falling two wickets on the score of 13, Rishabh Pant tried to handle the innings with Shreyas Iyer. After the partnership of 63 runs, the wicket of Rishabh Pant (27) fell. He was returned by leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy. The fourth and fifth wickets fell at a score of 95. Varun dismissed Shimron Hetmeyer (10) and Shreyas Iyer (47) on consecutive balls. The responsibility was on Marcus Stoinis (6), but Chakravarthy made him his victim. He completed his 5 wickets by dismissing Axar Patel (9). After this, Cummins returned Kagiso Rabada (9). Tushar Deshpande (1) was the 9th player to be out. Loki Ferguson got the wicket.
Kolkata Knight Riders had scored 194/6
Kolkata Knight Riders scored a brilliant score of 194/6 with half-centuries from Nitish Rana (81 runs, 53 balls) and all-rounder Sunil Narine (64 runs, 32 balls) and a 115-run partnership for the fourth wicket between the two.
For Delhi Capitals, Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada took 2–2 wickets, while R. Ashwin proved to be the most expensive, leaking 45 runs in three overs. Marcus Stoinis got 2 wickets in the last two balls of the innings, giving 41 runs in all four overs.
