Hindi Diwas 2022

There are very commonly used Hindi words that are available in Oxford English Dictionary. When you will read some of these words, you will not believe that they are part of English Dictionary. There are many words that our beloved Hindi language has given to the Oxford Dictionary. We have identified some of them below for you.

Timepass

The dictionary describes the word as "the action of spending time doing something, especially something that has no aim or is not very useful".

Chakka Jam

The dictionary describes the word as "a protest in which people block a road or cause a traffic jam".

Dadagiri

The dictionary describes the word as "the act of using strength and power to frighten or hurt weaker people".

Chamcha

The dictionary describes the word as "a person who tries too hard to please somebody, especially somebody who is important".

Jugaad

The dictionary describes the word as "a flexible approach to problem-solving that uses limited resources in an innovative way".

Keema

The dictionary describes the word as “meat that has been cut into very small pieces”.

Yoga

The dictionary describes the word as “a Hindu philosophy that teaches you how to control your body and mind in the belief that you can become united with the spirit of the universe in this way”.

Gulab Jamun

The dictionary describes the word as “an Indian sweet dish consisting of balls of paneer (= a type of soft cheese) that are fried in oil and then boiled in a sweet liquid, eaten at the end of a meal”.
