Adam Le Fontre scored in injury time, Mumbai beat Goa by 1-0
Mumbai City FC, the on paper winner of season 7, got 3 points in their second match of the season. Joint goal scorer of last season Ogbeche was on the bench in this starting lineup. Everyone was surprised with Sergio Lobera's decision. On the other hand, Brandan Fernandes was agan on the bench for FC Goa. This season is longer then all previous seasons so the teams might be looking to give proper rest to players in between matches and on the matchdays as well.
First Half : Redeem Tlang Red Card
In the first 15 minutes no teams were able to create clear cut chances. After that FC Goa started getting possession of the ball and attacking the Mumbai's goal. Edu Bedia's free kick from outside the box went straight to the Amrinder's hands. Goa continued to dominate possession as the half progressed but couldn’t create any openings and came closest to breaking the deadlock from set-pieces. Another Bedia freekick from the left in the 35th minute caused distress among Mumbai’s defenders after the ball was put into a threatening area only to evade everyone.
The game change on its head when the dangerous tackle of Redeem Tlang was shown the red card. After this event, FC Goa was on back foot. Only their striker Igor Angulo was in Mumbai's half and all remaining players were in their own half to defense.
Second Half : Mumbai dominated possession and scored on penalty in injury time
Mumbai had the one man advantage over Goa and they dominated the proceedings in second half. But the more players from Goa inside the box meant there are not many gaps to shoot for the target. FC Goa were waiting to attack on the counter. Whenver they got the ball, they tried to counter. Since they were one man down so they can't commit more players.
Ultimately when the goalless draw was evident, a cross inn the box found the hand of lenne Rodrigues and the official whistled for the penalty. Mumbai City FC's signing Adam le Fondre, who is the central striker for the team, scored a fantastic penalty into the bottom right corner. Mohammad Nawaz went into right direction were the force on the ball was too much for him and there was no time for him to stop that ball from going into the bottom right corner.
